Elementary Grade 4 Classroom Teacher - Friendship Village School

Position Purpose
To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.  Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.

Essential Functions
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Provide a safe, enriching, engaging environment for students to learn and feel supported.
  • Establish clear learning goals for all lessons, units and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and are aligned to fourth grade state and national standards.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student's varying needs and interests.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Provide consistent, immediate feedback to students about their learning and ask explicit questions that elicits response that demonstrate students' level of understanding.
  • Assess and monitor student academic progress with formative and summative assessments that are teacher created and/or are included on the district assessment map.
  • Progress monitor and provide Tier 2 intervention for students who have not yet reached benchmark.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of UBD units.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers, and supervisors.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile

  • Certification/License: 020
  • [State] State Certification as an Elementary Teacher
  • [State] State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
