Educational Technician - Functional Life Skills

Position Overview:

The Yarmouth School Department is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Functional Life Skills Educational Technician to support high school students with developmental disabilities and other exceptional needs. The successful candidate will work closely with special education staff to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) focused on teaching daily living skills, social development, and vocational readiness in both classroom and community settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instructional support to students in functional life skills (e.g., personal care, cooking, budgeting, hygiene, transportation use, and job-readiness).
  • Assist students in generalizing skills across environments (classroom, community, work sites).
  • Implement IEP goals under the supervision of a certified special education teacher.
  • Collect data and maintain documentation of student progress.
  • Support behavioral and social-emotional needs using positive behavior support strategies.
  • Supervise and engage students during structured and unstructured times (e.g., lunch, transitions).
  • Foster student independence and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, job coaches, and families.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Technician III certification from the Maine Department of Education (or the ability to obtain certification). 
  • Experience working with students with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for supporting students with diverse needs.

Base pay for an Educational Technician III in the 2025-26 school year is $25.54 and will be adjusted commensurate with experience.
