Classroom Responsibilities
This full-time position entails teaching ESOL courses for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills and have experience in teaching and assessing communication and writing for students of diverse backgrounds and varying abilities. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with colleagues across academic departments to align curricula with cross-disciplinary interests and post-secondary goals. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching six instructional courses
- Proctoring a study hall
- Overseeing an advisory period
An ideal applicant will be proficient in teaching within a 1:1 iPad classroom, utilizing Google Classroom to post course materials, and communicating effectively with students and parents. This position necessitates frequent communication with parents, counselors, and other educators, scheduling interventions for students, and attending department and faculty meetings.
Maine Central Institute, founded in 1866, is an independent town academy serving students in grades 9-12 from surrounding local communities, as well as international students from over 20 countries. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to teach at an independent residential school. Each faculty member is expected to contribute to the co-curricular environment at MCI. The training start date for this position is August 20, 2026.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in secondary education; a master's degree is preferred. Alternative and relevant degrees and careers will be considered.
- Relevant teaching experience is required; experience with international students is preferred.
- Proficiency with instructional technology; experience with a 1:1 iPad program is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, peers, and supervisors.
- Proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and to drive instruction.
