POSITION SUMMARY: 

Establish, lead, and coordinate the Unified Champions Club to promote social inclusion by joining adults with and without intellectual disabilities through recreational sports and other activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish, coordinate, and lead programming for the Unified Champion Club.  
  • Support project management, program development, outreach and administration of all related functions including special partnerships, training, recreational activities, communication, recruitment, and safety as they are relevant to the partners/volunteers and athletes.
  • Assess players/athletes and form Unified teams through screening, basic skills testing, and evaluations so athletes and partners are appropriately matched for Unified program using Special Olympics resources.
  • Delegate authority and share major responsibilities with volunteers and shared staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Attend high school Unified School sporting events and meet with coaches to “recruit” athletes and partners for the growth and awareness of the program.
  • Implement ongoing programming by following the AYCC’s session program calendar, and create and organize new programs and experiences for athletes and partners. 
  • Support fundraising events, projects, and donor outreach to sustain the Unified Champion Club.
  • Market the program through social media, attending community and networking events, and through presentations at local businesses, organizations, and schools.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and provide program updates with Special Olympics Maine.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers, plan and schedule volunteers, orient and train volunteers, and complete required volunteer paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with HR processes.

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Education, Health Promotion, Recreation, Physical Education, or Sports Management) or at least three (3) years of related experience in community and school settings.
  • Current Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED and first aid certification or be willing to become certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and familiarity with Google forms and documents.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is highly desired.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in program, event, and/or sports management.
  • Proven experience dealing with the public is required. 

 WORK SCEHDULE: Part-time 20-30 hours per week. Work hours vary depending on programming. Some nights or weekends may be necessary.
