 Serving Maine’s Midcoast communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, MSAD 75 is home to over 2,350 students and more than 600 faculty and staff members.

MSAD 75 is seeking a Social Worker at Mt. Ararat Middle School to join our vibrant educational community. Together, we can inspire the next generation of learners and leaders.

Position Type: Full-time, School Year (Anticipated Opening)

Summary:

The Middle School General Education Social Worker plays a vital role in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. This position focuses on addressing the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of general education students to enhance their academic success and overall well-being. The Social Worker will collaborate with students, families, educators, and community resources to provide comprehensive support and promote a safe, equitable, and inclusive school climate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Individual and Group Support:
    • Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing social, emotional, and behavioral concerns, including but not limited to: anxiety, stress, peer relationships, conflict resolution, and coping skills.
    • Conduct needs assessments and develop intervention plans to support student well-being.
    • Implement evidence-based practices and strategies to promote positive social and emotional development.
  • Collaboration and Consultation:
    • Collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school staff to understand student needs and develop coordinated support strategies.
    • Serve as a resource to school personnel regarding social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and behavioral management.
    • Participate in school-based teams (e.g., student support teams, intervention teams) to address student concerns and develop comprehensive plans.
    • Consult with parents/guardians to provide support, resources, and facilitate communication between home and school.
  • Prevention and Intervention:
    • Develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs that promote positive social skills, conflict resolution, and a positive school climate.
    • Provide crisis intervention and support to students and staff during critical incidents.
    • Identify and address systemic issues within the school that may impact student well-being.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
    • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community resources.
    • Connect families with appropriate community-based services and supports.
    • Collaborate with community agencies to address student and family needs.
  • Assessment and Documentation:
    • Conduct social-emotional assessments to identify student needs and inform intervention strategies.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.
    • Document interventions, progress, and outcomes of services provided.
  • Professional Development and Responsibilities:
    • Stay current with best practices in school social work and relevant educational research.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Adhere to the ethical standards of the social work profession and school district policies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Services.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
  • Current State of Maine licensure as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Valid State of Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) authorization.
  • Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
