York Middle School is seeking a dynamic art educator for a .6 position (3 days per week) serving Grades 5th-8th students. This art educator will lead art enrichment programming in our school, including Advanced Art opportunities for interested students. The ideal candidate will be able to take the initiative to lead and inspire our students, and contribute to our positive school environment. Specifically, we seek an art educator with the following:
Maine K-12 Art certification (620 endorsement)Knowledge about choice based classroom practices and studio habits of mindExperience in a proficiency-based learning environment is preferredA collaborative approach to developing student art talents in a middle school environmentWillingness to share a portfolio with the interviewing team
Candidate Attributes Preferred:A solid studio art education background An understanding of discipline-based art curriculum which incorporates art history, studio making & talking about art (aesthetics) concepts in every unit and is able to plan sequential lessons that build student skills over timeBe able to teach/offer a variety of 2D & 3D disciplines, such as Elements of Art, Principles of Design, teach drawing, composition, color mixing, painting, pastel, mixed media, collage, weaving, clay, printmaking, sculpture, skills.
