University of Maine at Fort Kent is looking to hire a Dean of Students. The Dean of Students provides leadership and vision, strategic direction, and budget development and oversight for the various areas and functions of Student Affairs including, but not necessarily limited to, residence life and dining, campus activities and student organizations, health services, campus recreation and fitness, student orientation, campus safety, and student conduct. The Dean of Students advocates for the needs of students; provides support in response to student issues and concerns; and collaborates with students, faculty, and staff in providing appropriate student services. This is a hands-on position where the successful candidate will be expected to become involved in all aspects of student life and student affairs operations. This is a full-time regular, in-person twelve-month position.

Seeking an individual that has the following knowledge, skills and abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of student development theory and application, particularly student learning outside of the classroom, as they relate to both traditional students and adult learners.
  • Working knowledge of how to develop, implement, and assess Student Affairs programs, including residence life, student activities, student conduct, and alcohol and other drug education programs.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate professional, classified and student employees.
  • Ability to establish rapport, collaborate, and build consensus with students, faculty, staff and community constituencies.
  • Well-developed organizational, administrative, interpersonal, budgeting and personnel management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide a high level of hands-on involvement with various constituencies and projects.
  • Ability to respond to emergency and crisis situations quickly and decisively.
  • Basic technology proficiency and the ability to learn new computer skills.
  • Commitment to a schedule that often includes participation in evening and weekend events and functions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the salary for this non-representent management position is $90,000 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.  The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers wellness programs.

Qualfications:

  • Required
    • Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related field.
    • Three to five years of professional Student Affairs experience.
    • Knowledge and experience in Title IX or student conduct procedures.
  • Preferred
    • Five to eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in Student Affairs.
