Multi-Language Learner (MLL) Teacher

As a Multilingual Learners (MLL) Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in empowering students to develop English proficiency while honoring and nurturing their home languages and cultural identities. Collaborating closely with classroom and other MLL educators, administrators, and families, you will implement research-based instructional strategies that support language development and content mastery, designing and adapting curriculum materials to meet the diverse linguistic and academic needs of students. 

Beyond the classroom, you will advocate for multilingual learners by promoting culturally responsive practices and fostering meaningful family and community engagement. Through your dedication and expertise, you will help create an inclusive, equitable, and academically enriching environment where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted instruction to multilingual learners in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that support English language acquisition and academic achievement.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse language learning needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom and MLL teachers to support language development across content areas and grades.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Communicate regularly with families and support their engagement in their child’s education.
  • Advocate for multilingual learners and promote a culturally responsive school environment.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Maine Department of Education (CHRC) 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in TESOL, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Valid Maine teaching certification with an MLL endorsement (or eligibility to obtain certification).
  • Experience working with multilingual learners in a school setting is preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
