High School Guidance Counselor

Lincoln Academy | Newcastle, ME

Posted Date 4/16/2019

Located in the beautiful mid-coast Maine town of Newcastle, about an hour north of Portland, Lincoln Academy seeks a full time Guidance Counselor to begin working in mid-August 2019. Founded in 1801, LA is an independent, 9-12 Town Academy of approximately 550 students. Deeply rooted in the communities of central Lincoln County, today LA serves as the “high school of record” for eight of these communities and draws from 15 other area towns as well, accepting all students from those towns. In addition to our local, publicly funded students, the school enrolls up to 90 international and more distant boarding students. This results in an exciting mix of young people, and the school is committed to providing an outstanding education for each of them.

The Guidance and Counseling Office at Lincoln Academy serves as a resource center for prospective and current parents, staff, and the community, and provides a system of support services for students. In addition to its responsibility for enrolling students in courses, establishing and implementing the school’s Master Schedule, tracking student grades, maintaining the formal transcript, coordinating external testing, and assisting students with all decisions regarding course choices and changes, guidance counselors are there to help students succeed, to assist them in making informed, thoughtful decisions both in high school and about the paths they’ll pursue after high school, and to act as college and career counselors. In addition to these functions, each Guidance Counselor advises a group of students and chaperones weekend activities a couple of weekends each year.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree; either Maine State Guidance Counselor certification or other counseling certification at the Masters level with independent school experience in college counseling and academic advising; strong communication skills; a collaborative approach to problem solving; a positive attitude; and experience supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of adolescents are required.

Applicants should electronically submit a cover letter, current resume or CV, proof of certification(s), and the names of three to five references to:
