Position Title: Director of Curriculum

Location: Kittery School District, Kittery, Maine
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: July 1, 2025

Overview:
The Kittery School District is seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Director of Curriculum. This is a full-time, permanent position beginning on July 1, 2025. The Director of Curriculum is responsible for overseeing curriculum development, instructional practices, assessment strategies, and professional development initiatives across the District. Reporting directly to the Superintendent of Schools, the Director works closely with the District's leadership team—including principals, assistant principals, and the Director of Special Services—to ensure that all students achieve academic success through rigorous and equitable learning experiences in alignment with  the district’s vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of district-wide curriculum and instructional practices and programming.
  • Oversee the District's assessment strategies to ensure alignment with state standards and effective measurement of student learning. Create and update the annual district assessment calendar.
  • Facilitate high-quality professional development opportunities for teachers, support staff, and administrators.
  • Chair the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee, a standing committee of the Kittery School Committee.
  • Lead the District's Proficiency-based Teaching and Learning Team, which includes teachers, school counselors, and administrators from throughout the District.
  • Collaborate with building and district leaders to promote best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Support the integration of technology and innovative practices in classrooms.
  • Analyze student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and identify areas for growth.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal educational regulations and standards.
  • Serve as the District’s ESEA Coordinator and DoDEA grant manager.
  • Serve as the District’s Title Nine and Affirmative Action Coordinator.
  • Supervise and Evaluate the Mental Health Outreach Coordinator.
  • Support the work of the Gifted and Talented program, mentoring program, ESOL program and intervention program.
  • Support the work of certification and recertification as well as the Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth(PEPG) system.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Leadership, or a related field (required); advanced degree preferred.
  • Maine Department of Education certification (078) Curriculum Coordinator (or eligibility for certification).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in teaching and/or educational leadership.
  • Proven expertise in curriculum design, assessment, and instructional best practices.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
