Special Education Teacher: Life Skills - Winslow High School
The Life Skills Program provides instruction within a public school setting to students in grades 9-12+ identified with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities.
This classroom provides instruction in academics, communication, community, domestic, leisure/recreation, and vocational skills. The classroom emphasizes communication, maximum independence, and opportunities to generalize skills in natural settings as well as participation in general education activities with typical peers.
Responsibilities
Case manage, prepare and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for elementary level students.
Direct and supervise the work of Educational Technicians who are responsible for assistance in implementing individualized special education programming.
Poses expertise in delivering reading, writing, mathematics, social skill and functional skill instruction.
Work as a team player who is willing to collaborate with others in order to benefit students.
Collaborate and consult with general school personnel regarding the implementation of the IEPs and special educational services
Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with school district regulations and legal requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors/Masters degree in the appropriate field
Valid teaching certification (282 endorsement)
Experience in educating special needs students
Proven effective classroom and student behavior management skills
Knowledge and understanding of State, local and federal regulations and policies affecting special education
