Saccarappa Elementary School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative educator to join our growing Multilingual Team. This is a one-year only ML teaching position and the successful candidate will have, or be eligible for, Maine D.O.E Multilingual certificate #660. Experience or background working with elementary aged children preferred. 

About the Position:

Westbrook’s Multilingual Team is a highly skilled and compassionate group of respected educators who truly believe in the academic and social-emotional growth of each learner. Currently, 24% of our total student population in Westbrook is identified as Multilingual Learners (MLs), representing 41 birth countries and 26 different primary languages. In Westbrook, our Multilingual Teachers: 

  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students 
  • Provide and support rigorous and appropriate instruction aligned with content area standards and WIDA English Language Development Standards to meet academic expectations for all MLs 
  • Provide direct instruction through various approaches, including content-based instruction and co-teaching
  • Collaborate and consult with general education teachers to enhance the acquisition of English in all language domains necessary for students to participate and make progress in general education content classes
  • Administer WIDA English proficiency assessments and develop annual Individual Language Acquisition Plans (ILAPs) for all identified MLs on caseload
  • Use school and student level data to inform instruction and programming supports for MLs
  • Maintain accurate student records and meet all federal, state and local guidelines for ML programming
  • Develop positive relationships with multilingual families 

About the School:

Saccarappa Elementary is a K-4 school of approximately 400 learners and 80 dedicated staff. In addition to literacy and numeracy, our curriculum includes classes in art, music, STEAM, physical education, and library. Technology resources and skills are integrated across the curriculum and in all school settings. Our Title I school is proud of its knowledgeable and compassionate Multilingual, Special Education, MTSS, and Gifted and Talented programs. Staff work collaboratively to provide support for a wide range of diverse learners. Professional Learning Communities meet weekly during early releases in order to study best practices and hone the art of teaching. We are proud of the partnership we have with our families, the Saccarappa PTO, and many other community members who make Saccarappa School a special place to teach and learn.
