Director of Special Education

The Brewer School Department is seeking a dynamic and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Special Education. This individual will provide strategic leadership and oversight for all special education programs and services across Pre-K through grade 12. The Director will ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, promote inclusive practices, and support high-quality instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

The desirable candidate will have:

  • Valid Maine DOE Certification as Administrator of Special Education (030)
  • Master’s degree in Special Education (Doctorate preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of special education teaching experience and at least 2 years of successful supervision or administration.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education law, compliance, and best practices.
  • Understanding of personnel management, and experience managing budgets and grants
  • Strong background in best practices and assessment tools used in special education
