Assistant Diver Trainer

                                                                                         Bus Driver Trainer Assistant

The Gorham School Department has an immediate need for an Assistant Bus Driver Trainer. This position is responsible for conducting behind-the wheel driver training of employees on how to drive a school bus in a safe and professional manner in preparation for CDL/Class B exam with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements. Flexible work calendar is required to accommodate year round training. Training new drivers will be conducted on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications:

1. Must hold a valid Maine CDL driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsement. At least one year driving experience as a school bus driver. Previous training experience strongly preferred.
2. Knowledge of: Laws, rules and regulations, regarding operation of a school bus; safety and maintenance requirements; vehicle components; safe driving skills; student discipline techniques.
3. Ability to: Understand, implement, and give oral and written directions; effectively train others including behind-the wheel skills; asses the skills and abilities of trainees; maintain cooperative relationships with a wide variety of personalities.
4. Interpersonal: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict: maintaining confidentiality; listening to others; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions.

This position will assist the Bus Driver Trainer in training newly hired trainees with behind-the wheel driver training and driving skills.
