Position Overview:
The School Social Worker will support students' mental health, emotional development, and overall well-being by working closely with
students, families, staff, and community resources. This role is vital in helping students overcome barriers to learning and succeed both in
and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct counseling services to students individually and in small groups
- Support students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges
- Serve as 504 Plan Chairperson, coordinating meetings, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to identify students in need of support
- Connect families with community-based services and supports
- Contribute to RTI, 504, and IEP teams as appropriate
- Deliver classroom-based SEL programming and support school-wide positive behavior initiatives
- Maintain clear and confidential documentation
- Serve as a liaison between home, school, and the outside service providers
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program
- Maine Department of Education certification as a School Social Worker (Endorsement 070)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working with children and families in a school or clinical setting
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practice
- Flexibility and the ability to work independently in a rural school setting
Preferred Qualities:
- Familiarity with restorative practices and SEL frameworks
- Experience in rural or small-school settings
- Knowledge of community-based mental health and family support systems
