Description

Brunswick School Department is seeking a Special Education Teacher for grades K-2 at Kate Furbish Elementary School. Kate Furbish Elementary School is a large and nurturing learning community serving students from Pre-K through Grade 2 in Brunswick, Maine. We are committed to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning in every child. Our staff is passionate about early childhood development and dedicated to creating an inclusive and joyful classroom experience. Intentional play is an integral part of our day.

 

We are seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and experienced teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of special education, early childhood education, a passion for helping young learners grow academically, socially, and emotionally and a commitment to collaboration.



Requirements:

  • Maine DOE 282 certification.
  • Maintains current knowledge of special education best practices, regulations, and issues of confidentiality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote student learning and engagement by developing and delivering lessons based on appropriate instructional goals and ongoing assessments, while using a variety of instructional approaches and techniques in the least restrictive environment to meet the varied needs and learning styles of students.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with families, colleagues, and students.
  • Fulfill case-management responsibilities, such as writing comprehensive IEPs and other related paperwork, in compliance with IDEA timelines and procedures.
  • Use ongoing assessments and data collection in order to refine academic and behavioral interventions, assess student growth in relation to goals, provide high-quality, inform instruction, and meaningful feedback to foster student learning.
  • Promote positive student behavior by developing a culture of respect, active student investment and participation, and rapport in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by the building administrator, director of special services, or superintendent.
  • Have a reflective and open-mindset with a willingness to grow and develop professionally.
  • Support the least restrictive environment with a focus on inclusion.
