Serving Maine’s Midcoast communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, MSAD 75 is home to over 2,350 students and more than 600 faculty and staff members.

 Mt. Ararat High School seeks a new Athletic Director to serve as the leader of athletic and associated extracurricular programming in our school. The successful candidate will possess experience in athletics and an appreciation for the role athletic participation plays in students' individual and collective growth. The role of the athletic director is supervise and oversee athletic programming in support of our belief that every student in grades 9-12 has an opportunity to participate in athletic activities. Candidates should share a belief in the role of athletics to foster physical skills, a competitive spirit and belief in sportsmanship, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sports, and the principles of fair play. The athletic director will collaborate with a coaching staff, parents, and community organizations to inspire meaningful athletic experiences across our community.

 SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Support, supervise, and collaborate with a wide coaching staff across three seasons of athletics.
  • Organize and schedule all interscholastic athletic events (Grades 9-12).
  • Hire officials, ticket vendors, police, and other staff as required at all events; arrange for medical coverage and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
  • Organize and supervise athletic award ceremonies; maintain records of athletic participation and award winners, including through the Athletic Hall of Honors.
  • Develop and maintain rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
  • Develop and maintain a robust system of 360 degree evaluation of athletic programs and conduct annual evaluations of all coaching staff.
  • Oversee a consistent system for eligibility of all student-athletes, including health and physical, academic and attendance, and insurance coverages.
  • Prepare, administer, and advocate for the resources of the athletic department budget.
  • Serve as a liaison with the MTA Athletic Boosters; oversee all fundraising activities of the athletic department and teams.
  • Maintain a system of storage of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Support a comprehensive system of scheduling of athletic faciltiites, prioritizing MTA teams and ensuring equitable access for community groups in adherence with MSAD #75 policy.
  • Attend appropriate league, state, and national meetings as representative of the
    school.
  • Oversee the collection of gate receipts and/or donations at appropriate athletic events.
  • Arrange field preparation for games and practices.
  • Arrange for bus transportation for all athletic events.
  • Collaborate with team coaches on the process of selecting student athletic captains for all sports; serve as the facilitator of a student captains' council to support team leadership.
  • Promote, support, and lead coaches in various professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school principal.

 CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • State of Maine Department of Education background check (CHRC) authorization. 
  • State of Maine Department of Education Athletic Director (215) Certification.
