Job Goal(s): To provide engaging, standards-based instruction in a world language (Spanish and/or French preferred) that supports students in developing language proficiency, intercultural competence, and a deeper global awareness. The teacher will foster an inclusive and communicative classroom environment where students can grow their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in the target language.

Qualifications

  • Strong content knowledge in world languages (Spanish and/or French preferred)
  • Experience with proficiency-based language instruction and ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards
  • Ability to integrate cultural perspectives and authentic materials into daily instruction
  • Demonstrated skills in classroom management, differentiation, and the use of technology to support learning
  • Commitment to student growth, feedback-driven instruction, and professional collaboration
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

Certifications

  • Maine DOE Certification  (World Languages, Grades 7–12) or equivalent, required
  • CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) required
Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, proficiency-based instruction in world language/s at the high school level.
  • Design lessons aligned with ACTFL and state standards that support all modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentation.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages risk-taking in language learning.
  • Integrate cultural and global perspectives into instruction to deepen student understanding and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the World Language department and the broader school community.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and support staff to ensure student success.
  • Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree in related area preferred.

Experience

  • 2 years preferred
Working Schedule
  • School Year Only (180 days)
  • 7:30am -2:45pm 
  • Monday - Friday
Travel Requirements
  • Travel between schools or district buildings may be required for certain positions

Reports To: Building Principal

Terms of Employment:  As determined annually by the District.

Evaluation: Completed annually by Principal or designee

FLSA Status: Exempt
