Date Position Available: 2026-2027 School Year
Qualifications: (282) Teacher Disabled Students (K-12) Certificate; and current CHRC authorization issued through the State of Maine, Department of Education.
Description: MSAD #11 is seeking an exceptional educator with a strong background in elementary literacy intervention and resource room-based services to serve as a Targeted Reading Teacher for grades 3–5. This position will work closely with the special education department to provide intensive, direct reading instruction to students performing significantly below grade level.
The goal of this role is clear and urgent: to deliver high-impact, evidence-based reading interventions before students enter middle school, with the intent that students who struggle with reading are approaching or at grade level by the time they enter sixth grade.
The ideal candidate will:
- Utilize ongoing assessment data to monitor student progress, identify areas for growth, and adjust instruction, accordingly, ensuring that all students make continuous gains in their identified areas.
- Demonstrate a passion for education and a commitment to ensuring that all students have equitable access to high-quality instruction.
- Have strong knowledge of best practices in special education related to literacy.
- Possess strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues alike.
- Access and adapt curricula to craft innovative lesson plans to meet the needs of small groups of diverse learners.
- Be able to write goals, conduct progress monitoring, and complete progress reporting; all other IEP paperwork is conducted by an individual dedicated to paperwork.
