The Kittery School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join the team at Traip Academy. This full-time, school-year position also offers opportunities for additional work when school is not in session.
Position Overview
The School Counselor at Traip Academy will play a pivotal role in supporting the academic, personal, and social development of all students. The successful candidate will work closely with students, families, staff, and community members to foster a positive and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the three domains of school counseling:
- Academic Success: Assist students in achieving academic goals through individual and group counseling, course selection, and both short and long term academic planning. Support the school administration and data management specialist with the development of the school’s comprehensive schedule. Support the successful implementation of standardized testing such as AP, PSAT, and Maine Assessments, to ensure a successful experience for all students.
- College/Career Readiness: Guide students in exploring post-secondary options, including college, career & technical education, military, and career opportunities. Support students in completing applications, preparing for interviews, and navigating the college admission process. Explore multiple pathways and Extended Learning Opportunities with students
- Social/Emotional Development: Address students' social and emotional needs through counseling services, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and collaboration with external support agencies.
- Provide individualized counseling to students to address personal and academic challenges.
- Develop and deliver school counseling curriculum in classroom settings.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and caregivers to support student progress and well-being.
- Monitor and document student progress and maintain accurate records in accordance with state and district policies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to student support plans.
- Facilitate peer mediation and student mentoring programs as needed.
- Serve as a resource for parents and families, providing strategies and resources to support student success.
Qualifications
- Valid Maine School Counselor certification (075) required.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to support students across the academic, career, and social/emotional domains.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Experience working with high school students in a counseling or educational setting.
