The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our admissions team as an Admissions Specialist. This role plays a crucial part in the enrollment process, ensuring a seamless experience for prospective students and supporting the overall admissions operations. The Admissions Specialist educates incoming first-year and transfer students, as well as families and counselors, about the University of Maine at Farmington and the college selection, application, and admissions process through customer service and front-end service work. This position will oversee the daily operations of the office, managing email and phone, as well as scheduling for the Admissions Office and visitors. This includes regularly scheduled visits, walk-ins, school group visits, special events, etc. The position may require extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during various periods. This is a full-time (40-hour work week), fiscal year position.

 

Essential Duties

  • Provides excellent customer service to prospective first-year and transfer students, as well as community members, about the admissions process and visitor opportunities.
  • Participates as a member of a professional admission team to design, develop, and implement successful marketing and recruitment communication strategies and plans.

  • Supports admission counselors in managing assigned primary and secondary geographic territories by helping with the planning, scheduling, and implementing marketing and recruitment activities in each area.

  • Supports the recruitment of diverse and underrepresented populations as part of the Office of Admissions' overall recruitment goals.

  • Assists in conducting a detailed first review evaluation of applicant transcripts seeking admission to the university which will inform the admission decision.

  • Conducts extensive telemarketing and telephone contact with students, families, and counselors.

  • Assists with the organization and execution of all on-campus visitation programming (open house, accepted student days, visitation days, etc.).

  • Maximizes opportunities for students, parents, and counselors regarding the college admission process and access to the university.

  • Participates fully in the office of admission staff meetings and retreats.

  • Participates in local travel when necessary.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Driver’s license (based on UMS standards).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in Admissions or closely related professional field.
  • Experience working with high school/college-bound students and families.
