GIFTED/TALENTED TEACHER

 

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal and Special Education Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

Valid Maine Teacher Certification with a Maine State G/T Endorsement.

 

WORK YEAR:

School year, per MEA Bargaining Agreement.

 

JOB GOALS:

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To identify gifted and talented students, address their needs, and provide them with

specialized instruction and opportunities for enrichment through direct service or consultation with regular classroom teachers.

  1. Make available to teachers and students a wide range of materials, including reading and resource materials, and maintain an inventory of these materials.
  2. Aid students in identifying and dealing with their academic and affective needs/strengths.
  3. Recommend proper course placement for gifted students, guiding students in proper course selection as needed.
  4. Help parents understand the specific needs of gifted students and the goals and operations of the program, apprising them of problems and progress.
  5. Evaluate student's initial needs and strengths to develop individual programming goals for the year.
  6. Evaluate individual goals at year-end, making recommendations for the following year.
  7. Consults with teachers to help differentiate gifted students to provide greater challenges in classwork and homework and to recognize their affective needs.
  8. Coordinates special opportunities for enrichment.
  9. Encourages high standards of individual student behavior.
  10. Participates in case conferences about gifted and talented students.
  11. Plans annual budget for instructional materials and supplies.
  12. Strives to improve professionally as an educator.
  13. Performs basic attendance accounting and evaluates student independent/group work
  14. Participates in curriculum planning and development.
  15. Advises the Special Education Director as to the resources necessary to meet system wide instructional goals and objectives.
  16. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.


    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation.The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift, bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.
