Position Overview

Maine Central Institute is seeking a full-time faculty member to join the Science Department beginning in August for the 2026-2027 school year. The institution seeks an applicant with the experience or ability to teach Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence related subjects. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging instruction in computer science and related technologies, fostering problem-solving, computational thinking, and ethical technology use while preparing students for college, careers, and informed citizenship in a digital world.

The ideal applicant will be comfortable teaching in a 1:1 iPad classroom, utilizing Google Classroom to post course materials, and communicating with students and parents. This position requires frequent communication with parents, counselors, and other teachers, scheduling interventions for students, and attending department and faculty meetings.

Founded in 1866, Maine Central Institute is an independent town academy serving students in grades 9-12 from surrounding local communities as well as international students from over 20 countries. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire to teach at an independent residential school. Each faculty member is expected to contribute to the co-curricular environment at MCI. This position has a training start date of August 20, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher; a master’s degree in education or Computer Science is preferred.
  • Teaching Ability: Ability to teach multiple upper-level computer science courses (may include AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A).
  • Experience: Prior high school teaching experience is required; experience with students with a wide range of abilities and international students is preferred.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in the use of instructional technology; experience with a 1:1 iPad program is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, peers, and supervisors.
  • Data Utilization: Proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and to drive instruction.
