Student Services – Special Education/Services Coordinator
Job Description
Fiddlehead School of Arts & Sciences, located in Gray, Maine, is one of Maine’s first approved Public Charter Schools from Pre-K to 8th Grade. The school practices a child-centered educational philosophy inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning. By design, the physical and open space environment of the school promotes outdoor and place based learning.
Fiddlehead School seeks a Special Education Coordinator who will work with and lead the Special Education Team and Teacher Assistants. The position will start August 4, 2025.
The position is a 1.0 FTE position.
The Special Education Services Coordinator has responsibility for all planning and implementation regarding the following:
- Special education programs and services
- General education intervention to support diverse learners
- RTI (Response to Intervention) program (Tier 3)
- 504 plans
The Special Education Services Coordinator supervises the special education teaching and assistant staff and reports directly to the Executive Director. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Students
- Coordinate Student Support Teams to discuss and plan interventions for academic, social, and emotional concerns.
- Supervise the evaluation, identification, and placement of students referred for special education and 504 plans.
- Supervise implementation of IEPs and 504 plans and meetings.
Staff
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of special education teachers and special education specialists.
- Conduct regular meetings and trainings for special education staff.
- Supervise development of IEPs.
- Assist special education teachers with student academic, emotional and behavioral support.
Administration
- Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the instructional program for students receiving special education services.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit reports or records legally required.
- Monitor and supervise special education programming for compliance with special education law.
Minimum Requirements:
- Maine .282 Certification
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Special Education

- Administrative Certification 030
- Autism Spectrum Experience
- Behavior Experience
