Pre K-1st Grade Teacher-1 year position
Islesboro Central School, a small K–12 island school, seeks a nurturing, student-centered Pre-K to Grade 1 Teacher for the 2026-27 school year only. The successful candidate understands the foundational importance of early childhood education and is excited to support our youngest learners during their most formative years in a multi-age setting.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of early literacy and numeracy development, developmentally appropriate practice, and play-based, inquiry-driven learning. Experience with early reading instruction, phonemic awareness, handwriting, foundational math skills, and social-emotional learning as well as the ability to differentiate instruction within a multi-age classroom are essential.
The ideal candidate builds warm, trusting relationships with young children; creates a structured yet joyful classroom environment; communicates effectively with families; and collaborates closely with colleagues. Flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to meeting the needs of all learners are critical in our close-knit island community.
Certification in Early Childhood or Elementary Education required. Experience in multi-grade or small-school settings preferred.
