0.8 FTE Teaching Position (7-12) - Leadership Experience / Freshman Academy

Cape Elizabeth High School and Cape Elizabeth Middle School are seeking a dynamic teacher to conduct classes centered around leadership skills and personal growth and also transitional skills-based classes for incoming ninth grade students in a freshman academy model. The teacher in this position will be responsible for:

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Independently designing curriculum for leadership and freshman academy classes to include goal setting, executive functioning skills, interpersonal and personal growth skills, 21st century skills, leadership skills, community outreach, mentoring, understanding and resolving conflict, restorative approaches.
  • Community outreach and community-based projects, including potential evening events
  • Designing and collaborating on programming for mentoring with community services and other schools.
  • Collaboration with Cape Elizabeth Middle School in assessing student skills and designing rosters for freshman academy in a needs-base model
  • Collaboration with Cape Elizabeth Middle School about potential transition elective.
  • Conduct classes centered around successful student transition from CEMS to CEHS
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for subject areas, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Qualifications Profile

  • Certification/License: Maine State Certification as a teacher (7-12)

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
  • Masters Degree preferred.

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience in leadership and high school transition skills-based curriculum at the high school grade level preferred.
