The scenic Mid-coast region has spectacular natural assets as it is tucked in along the southern coast of Maine. By the mid 1800’s the attraction of the region as a summer resort was recognized.  The tourist and summer resident industry has continued to grow, as other industries such as fishing and lumbering have shrunk.  The only traditional fishing business left of any size is lobster fishing.  The venerable shipbuilding heritage continues to this day as the Boothbay Region is one of the largest boating harbors north of Boston.  The region is known for its strong community support and involvement in the local schools. The population of the Boothbay region is about 7,500 residents during the winter months but swells to about 25,000 residents during the summer months.

Along with its natural beauty, the region is blessed with a state of the art YMCA, the world reknowned Opera House, the newly renovated Boothbay Harbor Country Club, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens rated among the top ten gardens in the US, the Boothbay Region Land Trust, active regional Historical Societies and busy public libraries.

The name Rocky Channels comes from the Abenaki definition of Sheepscot, “a place where many rocky channels come together.”  The Sheepscot River is the body of water that ties our communities together.
